BAH, HUMBUG!

Step back in time to experience Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as it might have been first seen by Victorian audiences. In this richly atmospheric adaptation, a troupe of costumed players brings the classic tale to life with candle-lit stages, hand-painted scenery, and live music performed on period instruments. Faithful to Dickens’ original text, this version captures the heart of the beloved story — the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge's chilling encounters with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come — but is presented with the theatrical flair of the 1840s. Performers shift fluidly between characters and narration, often speaking directly to the audience, as was tradition in parlour entertainments and early public readings. Shadow play, lantern effects, and simple mechanical stage tricks conjure the spirits, while a chorus of carollers underscores the action with traditional Victorian songs. More than just a retelling, A Christmas Carol is a theatrical time capsule — an invitation to celebrate the spirit of Christmas past, and to remember the enduring power of kindness, generosity, and redemption.
