ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Penny & Pound Theatre Productions is thrilled to announce  EMPOWERPLAY- a theatre arts program tailored for people with developmental disaAbilities. Embark on a creative adventure brimming with excitement and knowledge. Through programming designed to focus on social skills and confidence building, students will immerse themselves in acting, storytelling, and self-expression within a nurturing and diverse setting. Guided by experienced theatre veterans and bi-monthly guests, students are encouraged to take risks and grow in both their art and their confidence! Let’s break down barriers and dazzle on the stage together!

REGISTRATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY AUGUST 31st, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

STUDENTS WILL... 

  • Learn the fundamentals of theatre and performance including theatre terminology, character creation, vocal techniques (spoken and musical), movement, staging and improvisation

  • Learn and practice social and life skills

  • Work together to create a one-act performance 

  • Experience performance in front of a live audience

  • Learn and receive mentorship from experienced industry professionals

  • Earn high school volunteer hours 

  • Grow in confidence and skill in a safe and encouraging environment dedicated to their comfort and well-being 

  • Create lifelong friendships 


WHO IS ELIGIBLE

EMPOWERPLAY is open to Youth (Ages 12-18) and Adults (18+) who identify as having a developmental or physical disAbility. 

Penny & Pound Theatre Productions is a safe and inclusive youth and young adult production company with a mission to offer the best in community arts and youth theatre education in the Region. We encourage full participation from performers identifying as members of the BIPOC community and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, as well as performers with disAbilities and those of all gender identities, social and economic backgrounds and beliefs. We are looking for enthusiastic performers with a keen knack for singing, acting, dancing or all three! No previous experience is necessary. All we ask is that all students enjoy creative challenges, are hardworking and have a love of the theatrical arts!

ADULT PROGRAM DAYS | Mondays from 1:00-3:00 PM

YOUTH PROGRAM TERMS 
TERM ONE | Saturday, September 14th- Saturday, December 14th, 2024
TERM TWO | Saturday, January 11th- Saturday, April 12th, 2025

ADULT PROGRAM TERMS 
TERM ONE | Monday, September 16th- Saturday, December 16th, 2024
TERM TWO | Monday, January 13th- Monday, April 14th, 2025




 

PROGRAM FEE 

Those who register for EMPOWERPLAY are asked to pay a program fee of $500/per term.
As a not-for-profit, education-based company, Penny & Pound Theatre Productions rely on the support of grants and donors in order to operate. Program fees are used to cover the costs associated with producing a full-scale production, including (but not limited to): licensing rights, venue rental, sound and lighting rental, costuming, marketing and set construction. Program fees do not pay THE CREATIVE TEAM or STAFF.
