THEATRE MAKES THE WORLD GO ‘ROUND

Founded in 2015, Penny & Pound Theatre is a registered not-for profit, Ontario-based touring performing arts company aimed at enriching the lives of the community through affordable, quality entertainment and accessible performing arts education and experience. 
Over the course of each MainStage season, Penny & Pound Theatre travels from Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo, to Guelph, to Brant County, bringing along fabulous, full-scale theatrical productions cast entirely with local artists. Penny & Pound also offers an array of performing arts classes and workshops for artists of all ages! At P&P, there is something for everyone!

CARING FOR OUR PERFORMERS, STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS

The theatre industry can oftentimes be a stressful and toxic place. At Penny & Pound, we strive to rewrite the script and create an atmosphere of acceptance, inclusion, accessibility and encouragement. Here’s how we do it: 


 

  • Setting Clear Boundaries: The implementation of Penny & Pound’s Anti-Harassment, Anti-Discrimination and Workplace Harassment policies; keeping clear and open communication between staff, performers and volunteers

  • Mental Well-Being: The Mental Health First Aid Kit, which is readily available for use, without question, for staff, performers, and volunteers at all rehearsals, classes and performances; normalizing discussions about stress, burnout, anxiety and sensory discomfort

  • Physical Well-Being: Providing those who may need them with necessary toiletries, no questions asked; encouragement of proper hydration, nutrition, hygiene and rest; a readily available First Aid Kit and safety precaution plan for emergencies.

  • Fair Treatment and Recognition: Offering fair, appropriate and inclusive casting and audition processes; providing clear and structured rehearsal and performance schedules that respect performers’ and volunteers’ time

  • Supporting Accessibility: Offering sensory-friendly and relaxed performances or accommodations; offering Pay-What-You-Choose performances and payment plans; creating and implementing clear and inclusive means of communication
